Dental implants are a permanent solution for those with one or more missing teeth. Implant solutions do not simply replace the part of the tooth that you can see, they also replace the root.
A titanium metal “root” (or screw) is implanted in the jawbone in order to hold the artificial tooth in place. Many of our patients who have this procedure done remark on how much more secure and worry free this is for them than their previous removal full or partials dentures.
Adult patients who are in good general health are usually candidates for dental implants. In some cases, those who have deteriorated jawbones are able to have bone augmentation which makes is possible for them to get implants as well.
The only way to determine if you are candidate for treatment with us, is to a book an initial consultation with us.
If you are considering dental implants, make an arrangement to visit our clinic – no need for a referral from you regular dentist. One of our dental professionals will examine your mouth and take x-rays to determine if this procedure is right for you. If your jaw is healthy, there is a good chance that you are a good candidate for dental implants and we will book an appointment for surgery. At least two appointments will be necessary.
In the first appointment the surgeon will implant a metal root into your jawbone beneath the gum. The tissue must then be given time to heal. While the tissue heals, the artificial root will bond to the jawbone and attach to the gum.
Your healthy teeth remain intact and do not need to be ground down for this procedure.
Once your gum tissue has completely healed, the dental professional will attach an abutment (also known as a post, or ball) to the implant. For some patients we may be able to attach the abutment in the first stage of the surgery.
We then make an artificial tooth or teeth which attach to the implant post or ball. If a few multiple teeth next to each other need to be replaced, we may also suggest a bridge which is securely anchored to implants.
One of the best types of dental implants available in the market today is the implants made from Trabecular Metal; the next level of implant technology.
